Eligibility
Space-available travel is open to family members of permanently assigned personnel, regardless of command sponsorship and DOD civilians. Travelers must meet DOD eligibility requirements outlined below, if you have any questions call the Passenger Terminal at DSN 676-6424/6425. Family members desiring space-available travel without the sponsor must have a command sponsorship letter/Environmental Morale Leave (EML) order. These letters can be obtained by the sponsor from their orderly room. Military members must be on leave status to sign up and present their travel documents (ex: ID card, EML paperwork (if taken) and red-stamped NATO orders). Family members will need to bring their ID cards, residency permits, and passports.

Passenger precedence
Passengers are assigned available seats on a first-in, first-out basis within their respective categories. The categories are as follows:

- Category 1: Non-funded emergency travel.
- Category 2: Active Duty with/without dependents and DOD civilians on environmental morale leave (EML) status
- Category 3: Active duty on ordinary leave, convalescent leave, and permissive TDY status (house hunting only).
- Category 4: Unaccompanied dependents on environmental morale leave (EML) and DODDS teachers traveling on EML during summer break.
- Category 5: Command sponsored dependents and permissive TDY travel. (sports)
- Category 6: Retirees

Notes: For all category passengers, your name remains on the waiting list for 60 days or whenever your leave expires. Active-duty personnel on leave must be in a leave status at the time of space available sign-up and remain on leave the entire time before and during travel. Space-A travel with dependents is not authorized in conjunction with TDY orders.

Authorized attire
The wear of the military uniform is no longer required when traveling Space-A on Air Mobility Command aircraft. BDUs may be worn on flights between military bases only. AMC has defined inappropriate attire as tank tops, opened-toed shoes (commercial aircraft only), and soiled/ torn/revealing or offensive clothing. Active duty military and civilians traveling within Turkey must be in civilian attire.

Baggage allowance
The baggage allowance for AMC Space A passengers is limited to two pieces per passenger. Each piece must not exceed 70 pounds and not be larger than 62 linear inches in dimension (linear inches = length + width + height). The C-12 Huron and C-21 Learjet aircraft are restricted to one piece at 35 pounds. Hand-carried baggage is limited to 45 linear inches (L x W x H). Please NOTE: Purses, Briefcases, Diaper Bags, and Laptops are excluded. Please visit the TSA.gov website on all the restricted items.
